Greensboro-based business executive and philanthropist Roy Carroll has led The Carroll Companies to become one of the most renowned real estate development firms in the North and South Carolina area. Over the last 9 years, The Carroll Companies designed and created over 8,000 properties, garnering more than $640 million in asset value. As founder, CEO, and Chairman, Roy Carroll has enabled The Carroll Companies to become one of the most successful businesses in North Carolina?s Piedmont Triad. Recently, Roy Carroll led The Carroll Companies in renovating a 17-story building across from a Greensboro city park, transitioning it from an unused former Wachovia Bank branch to a multi-use residential, retail, and office space. For his work in beautifying and modernizing his hometown's city district, Roy Carroll earned the 2006 Downtown Greensboro Person of the Year award. Roy Carroll has utilized his prosperity to give back to the Greensboro community. In 2006, Roy Carroll launched a program devoted to finding a cure for diabetes. Supported by The Carroll Companies, ?Building an End to Diabetes? raised $634,000 in proceeds from four years of Greensboro area home sales, which Roy Carroll donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Roy Carroll and the staff of The Carroll Companies are currently working to restructure the program, enabling other builders in Greensboro and across the United States to participate and raise funds. In addition to his efforts toward ending diabetes, Roy Carroll actively supports Samaritan's Purse, a North Carolina-based nonprofit organization that offers spiritual and medical aid to people in need around the world. A donor to the United Way of Greater Greensboro, Roy Carroll belongs to the organization?s Tocqueville Society, which grants membership to individuals who contribute at least $10,000 annually, supporting causes that improve education, health, and financial independence. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Roy Carroll enjoys playing tennis and biking. Roy Carroll also sits on the boards of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Greensboro College, and the NC Piedmont Triad Film Commission.
