Karl Zachar



  







Massachusetts resident Karl Zachar is a general manager at IntrinsiQ Financial, an oncology data company, where he has worked since 2004. As general manager, Karl Zachar led the turnaround and repositioning of IntrinsiQ, formerly an oncology software company, into an oncology data company, with clients including major hedge fund managers and global pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Before joining IntrinsiQ, Karl Zachar was the president and chief operating officer of Shackleton Schools, based in Boston and Ashby, Mass. The school is an experiential high school founded by alumni and faculty of the Harvard Business School and Harvard School of Education. In his tenure with the school, Karl Zachar led a 22-person staff, developed management systems that supported the educational, fundraising and administrative teams and worked with donors and the board of directors on fundraising projects, with an annual budget of $2 million. Karl Zachar was responsible for planning, budgeting, reporting, establishing financial controls and making human resources decisions.

Karl Zachar spent about six years working as the vice president of the investment management division of Goldman Sachs, with offices in Boston and San Francisco. Karl Zachar was the chief investment officer of the top-ranked team in the firm’s Private Wealth Management division from 1998 to 2001. Karl Zachar assisted in evaluating each client’s investment objectives and designed asset allocation strategies for each client’s goals. Karl Zachar was also part of a team that constructed investment portfolios and oversaw external investment managers.

In his marketing responsibilities for the company, Karl Zachar raised $12 billion in new assets, targeting clients including entrepreneurs, senior corporate executives and charitable foundations. Karl Zachar achieved a five-year equity track record in portfolio management that outperformed the Standard and Poor 500 and ranked him consistently among the top 5% of the company’s teams.

As a result, Karl Zachar was awarded Model Team status across the entire division and led workshops on portfolio management and performance monitoring for investment professionals and outside consultants. He headed Harvard Business School recruiting for the company from 1998 to 2001 and received the company’s Division Leadership Award in 2000.

From 1989 to 1991, Karl Zachar was an associate at Prudential Global Funding in New York. He structured, traded and marketed interest rate and currency swap transactions in U.S. dollars, Japanese yen and Canadian dollars. As an associate, Karl Zachar was responsible for maintaining 250 domestic and international trading accounts.

Karl Zachar’s first job was as a farmhand on his family’s cattle farm in Davie, Fla., where he cared for livestock, and maintained agricultural machinery, fencing and barns. He worked for the Golden Shoe Farm until 2001, also serving as the farm’s chief operating officer, responsible for maintaining the farm’s financial viability.

Karl Zachar is a 1993 graduate of the Harvard Business School in Boston, where he earned an MBA. He co-authored a Harvard case study on corporate restructuring and played on the business school rugby team. He also served as an alumni interviewer from 1993 to 1998. Before attending Harvard, Karl Zachar attended Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., where he graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and international relations.

In addition to his professional commitments, Karl Zachar is a board member of the North Carolina Outward Bound School, based in Asheville, N.C., and serves on the board’s membership and development committees. Karl Zachar is also a member of the agricultural committee of the Codman Community Farm, based in Lincoln, Mass. The farm’s mission is to conserve New England farmland and heritage breed livestock and offer educational programs for children in agriculture, conservation and animal husbandry.

Karl Zachar is interested in outdoor sports, including whitewater kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, scuba diving and participating in triathlons. He is a married with two sons.
