Diamond Ranch Academy
Based in Hurricane, Utah, Diamond Ranch Academy combines the structured environment of a boarding school with the therapy and support necessary to aid youths in overcoming behavioral and emotional problems. The treatment center espouses accountability, hard work, integrative therapy, and academic success as keys to helping young people ages 12 to 18 become positive and productive members of society. Licensed by the Utah Department of Human Services, Diamond Ranch Academy contains four campuses that separate pre-adolescents and teenagers according to age and gender. Professionals designed the academic program at Diamond Ranch Academy to foster student-centered learning that allows them to move at their own pace while benefiting from a traditional classroom setting. Because students who come to the school often struggle academically, educators focus on developing the techniques and strategies that will help them master subjects, rather than simply testing one area and moving on. Students must achieve a mark of 80% or better in an area before they can advance. In conjunction with courses that cover history, chemistry, English, algebra, economics, and more, teachers instruct residents in life skills that assist them with navigating job interviews and improving their communication strategies as a whole. Outside the classroom, Diamond Ranch Academy hosts a number of activities, sports, and field trips to inspire and challenge students. Teens build character and learn teamwork through wrestling, volleyball, football, and track and field, and they express their creativity by making pottery, playing music, and participating in other recreational pursuits. Excursions to locations throughout southern Utah encourage students to apply their lessons to the real world and expose them to some of the most breathtaking natural scenery in the country.
