Darlene Jevne
For almost 30 years, Darlene Jevne has assisted students with special needs. She founded St. Christopher Academy in 1982 with her own son and four of his peers in mind. Darlene Jevne understands the challenges faced by these students and their parents and works to provide assistance. St. Christopher Academy operates on the same campus as Seattle Lutheran High School, and students may join the sports teams of the latter school. As Director, Darlene Jevne has endeavored to create an environment that supports emotional, academic, and developmental progress through individualized instruction. St. Christopher Academy features an International Program, which operates with three goals: to provide college preparatory instruction, to develop understanding and respect for cultures worldwide, and to guide students from English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes into regular courses. Darlene Jevne takes pride in the approval the program has received from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under its Student and Exchange Visitors Program. Darlene Jevne continues her commitment to youth with special needs during summertime, as well. She operates the Jevne Outdoor Academy, which features opportunities for boys aged 13 to 17 to travel to Idaho to spend time on a working ranch. They may earn high school credits for their efforts and participate in an abundance of outdoor activities, including rock climbing, wilderness safety training, fishing, hiking, and canoeing. Attendees may also take advantage of excursions to attractions such as nearby ice caves; Yellowstone National Park; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She also enjoys gardening and supports an area children?s hospital.
